Nottingham dog owner banned after pet attacked woman

A woman has been banned from owning animals for life after her dog mauled her pregnant friend, tearing off part of her lip and almost killing her.

Laura Holmes, 21, tried to escape the Akita dog by shutting herself in a bathroom.

Tracie Taylor, 49, of Hope Close, The Meadows, Nottingham, admitted allowing her dog to be out of control.

She was told to pay Miss Holmes Ł1,000 in compensation and was given a 16-week jail sentence suspended for 12 months.

Taylor was also handed a 12-month supervision order at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

Miss Holmes, who was 29 weeks pregnant at the time, has not been able to bring herself to speak to her friend since the attack.

She said: "When that dog jumped on me I had no time to react. It was so quick. He just didn't want to let me go.

"But while he did this to me, it wasn't his fault."

Doctors said she and her unborn son could both have died.

The dog called Koda, which was nine years old, has been destroyed.

An old neighbour of mine had an Akita, if I popped round she used to keep him in the kitchen or outside as she said he wasn't good round people, gorgeous looking but it used to bother me that he wasn't socialised round people. I could never take my daughter round there.
I don't know much about the breed but I just assume that maybe with a dog such as those you need to know what your doing,

1000 pounds and a suspended jail sentence is a joke. The medical bills probably ran well over 10k, and were probably several times that. At least she got a life ban from owning animals. Wonder if that will be enforced?

The second link had been changed and did not show - thankfully - the more graphic photos that were originally shown. Not that I wanted anyone to see them, just that there were a few more details.

But the dog had bitten before and nothing was done because that was the law then?
