Dogs that don't shed much

A friend has asked me which breeds don't shed too much hair. Now, bearing in mind I have dallies and my next will most certainly be a poodle (!) I'm not the best person to ask

She's after a medium sized dog so what breeds would you recommend for less shedding? She knows poodles are top of the list, but what else?

Don't they say Bichon Frise's don't shed - good for people with allergies? Could be wrong though!

although I have long haired (ish) dogs they don't actually shed that much - was always told that short haired dogs can shed much more than the long haired dogs!

What are the reasonings for non shedding? Allergy or the 'dog hair' factor!

How about an Airedale ?

Might be a bit big but like many terriers, they have a 'broken' coat that does not shed.

There's the Labradoodle too which may be the right size.

Thanks guys, I'd already suggested an Airedale (and I'm sure it was her that said she liked scruffy dogs so, no offence to Airedale owners... that seems to fit the bill!)

Thanks Rachel, I heard that long haired dogs shed less (or rather, are easier to clean up after) than short haired dogs. Dally hairs are like little needles and stick in everything! I have a long haired cat that leaves black bundles of fluff wherever she goes but they're relatively easy to pick up!

Thanks Julie,

Sorry, I think by medium she's meaning something sort of dalmatian/labrador size so border terrier is a bit small. Thanks though
