Dew claw on back leg, is this normal ???

I have discovered a very small, curled over dew claw on Maisy's back leg, never seen them on the back always on the front, she only has it on one leg. Anyone else experienced this?? is it normal ??

Its perfectly normal hun some dogs are born with them on all four legs some just the front ones. If you go to a groomer mention it to them and they'll trim it nice and short.

My Rjj had them on all 4 legs, he had the back ones removed because they were not properly attached & stuck out at an angle. He had his op when he was 7 months old & you cannot even tell he ever had them at all. I would always have rear dew claws removed, the front ones still have a use(well my dogs use theirs)

Tonto came with dew claws on his back legs, but they were removed when he was neutered.... and tbh the bandages on his back paws took his mind off of what was missing between his legs!

Inca still has hers and has never had any problems with them.........at the time, coz who knows it has changed, her breed recommended keeping them as wolves have them....... but then I saw a programme about wolves and they didn't have any???

Woody has one. He had all four but the vet only removed 3 as a pup (moron ;o) so we'll have to get it taken off when he's neutered at 9 months.
He's caught it quite bad recently so has had it trimmed back as much as poss. Keep an eye on it though as they do bleed alot and the vet has said she'll have to remove it if he carries on catching it.

My dog has all 4 dewclaws, we just had her nails trimmed at the vet, I keep an eye on the dewclaws they just grow in circles so I keep at it by filing them down, I hate to clip them.

I am thinking of buying one of new rotating trimmers, not the cheap one, there are a few here that cost about $60. maybe a little more.

My vet mentioned when she was a yr old i may want to get them removed, but I didn't, I haven't had any problems with them, long as they are trimmed or your dog is active they sometimes take care of themselves.
