Virtual memory

When I was putting some new pics on photobucket this morning, a icon thingy came up saying 'windows - virtual memory too low' what does this mean and why, what is virtual memory and what do I have to do to make it better, thank you

p.s. please could you make any answer so an idiot can understand, thanks

Hi CLMG, virtual memory is what windows uses when your physical memory on your pc is used up ( you could have to many programs running and you dont have enough physical memory for windows to cope) and so your hard drive is used for virtual memory (usually much slower) .Depending on how much has been alocated(the paging/swap file) the n that too can be used up..So, basically you probablly could do with upgrading more memory or you could try freeing up resources on your pc( stop unecessary programs starting/running).
