Bloat / GDV Awareness

I'd just like to say thanks to everybody for their well wishes and advice. I'm amazed at the amount of replies there's been and I just hope that everybody that's flicked through Breagh's 175 posts will at least be a bit more aware of the seriousness and the suddeness of bloat / GDV should they ever have to experience it with their own dogs.

I know a lot of Dogsey people know all about it but for those that dont:

Breagh has surprised us all at her strength and speedy recovery and (fingers crossed) she will continue to improve over the coming days and weeks.

Cheers

Phil

Thanks Phil, that will be a great help for many of us I am sure.
I will definatly be having a read as although I have heard a lot about bloat I have never (thank goodness) experienced it, so am always worried I might miss some vital sign, especially having a large deep chested dog.
I am so pleased Breagh is continuing to do so well, please give her another gentle hug from me.

Hi Phil.
No thanks needed. I lost my gorgeous Great Dane after her second bout of bloat, so, unfortunately, I know first hand what a devasting condition this is.
Delighted to know that Breagh continues on the up - she really is a special young lady xox

Great link Phil I am aware of this not because I have experienced it but because Ollie's brreed can be prone to it so the breeder sends everyone who has a puppy away with a fact sheet hence knowing about the Gaviscon she tells us about that too.It is one of my nightmares should he get it.
Glad Breagh is doing so well gentle (((Hugs))) from Ollie and myself.

What a great link, both contain excellent information for those who may be effected or worried.

When I think back to how long my boy was in the vet and how poorly he was, despite being operated in within minutes of me finding him, I truly believe little Breaghs recovery is nothing short of a miracle, to be up and running around the very next day, and still so full of fun.

I also send more hugs to her and hope she continues to improve as each day passes.

Thanks for the links You can never have too much info on the signs of bloat.

One of the first things our vet discussed with us when we got Star was bloat as boxers are one of the breeds at a higher risk of it. Its one of these horrible things that as much as you do to prevent it, it can still happen

Glad to hear Breagh is recovering well

Hi Phil
Came in too late on the other posting, but just wanted to say that I'm glad Breagh is on the mend. Hopefully people will look at the links, and print off the information for the future. I printed the 'dogsitter' sheet out when my first Leo suffered this, just in case I was out and it happened to one of the others. I also made sure everyone in my family knew what signs to look out for.

Hope Breagh continues to do well

xx

Thanks for taking the time to do this Phil, as someone who has lost a dog to this awful problem I know how important speed is & recognising the symptoms. May Breagh continue to do as well as she has been.
