Hope - The puppy that was ill is semi blind

Not sure this is in the right place to be honest but posting it in pic's just didnt seem right. I'm sorry for the long post but I'd value your advise regarding Hope, we're first time breeders and love them all to bits.
hope was the one really ill and both us and the vets doubted she'd make it.
She was born without the bag, was a strange shape and not breathing. My friend who played midwife brought her back to life and she seemd fine until 48 hours old then the problems really began.
She got a really bad upper respiratory tract infection and was bleeding from her eye and nose. Our vet was wonderful saw us out of hours and put her straight away on synulox drops.
The only problem is now the eye that was bleeding hasnt formed right and shes a small or no eye in the socket. Friends have advised us to put her to sleep but we cant bare too. Shes vision in one eye doubled in body weight in two weeks and a real sweetie active and as the photo shows aware of her surroundings. We've decide to let her go free to a good home just hope one comes along because although I dont have room for another I'll find room if not.
My friends are saying I'm being cruel but the vets says she wont be used to full vision so she'll be ok and a lots of dogs have eyes removed later in life and are fine.
Alot of our friends are making us feel guilty for letting her live and I'm like I'm in a no win situation.
Your thoughts please

Blind dogs can lead perfectly happy lives, just like blind people. As your vet points out, she won't know any different, and she will just addapt with the senses she has. I know dogs who have lost sight later in life and still copes remarcably well (as long as the furniture aren't moved around too often!), so I don't think putting her to sleep is a choice. You will obviously have to find her a very special home, with people who have some experience with blind dogs, or who are willing to research and really look into how to make life as good for her as possible.
She looks ever so sweet.

Poor you. Pressure is a horrible thing to have to deal with over such a sensitive subject. I would say that if she is over the infection, and is suffering no other ill effects from such a traumatic start in life, let her give it a go. You say she's active and obviously gaining weight, see how she gets on. There are lots of special people out there who can give this little girl just what she needs!!!

my dog suki has eye sight problems in both eyes and has has it since she was born its amazing how she can always find the cat to jump on her thou, if hope is physically sound and is going to have no other continuting health problems then i would say she would be fine. all their other sences (smell, hearing, touch and memory of where everthing is) heighen. if you are having trouble ring the dogs trust or spaniel rescue they may be able to adversise her for you??
let us all know how yo get on

She is lovely if you can find her the right home and I am sure you will I think you are right to let her have a chance.
Good luck with her.

I think you have made the right decision. She has fought so hard to get where she is , as long as she is healthy in other areas poor eyesight in one eye is IMO not a reason to PTS. Good luck in finding her a wonderful home.

Aww...I'm sure she will be fine. 2 years ago we had a pup born with cleft palate, my vet told me that it's quite common for a secondary problem like cataracts. We took our pup to an eye specialist and he does have cataracts but only on the very outer edge of his eyes, so although his vision is not as good, because he's never had full vision from birth he has learnt to cope with it. He's now 2 years old and living with a fabulous family and another cocker, they say you would never know he had a problem.

Hopefully your little pup will find a loving home like we did and she will go on to lead a full and happy life.

Just to add, the CP wasn't picked up until he was 6 weeks old and many people/breeders told us too to have him PTS, then when the Cataracts were picked up as well they basically had him written off. But we had fought so hard to keep him going in those early days there was no way I was having him pts. If you could see him now he just looks like a normal healthy cocker

If she has vision in one eye and has no other long term issues then I'm certain she will live as long and fulfilling a life as her siblings who have 2 eyes. If she had an accident at say 6 weeks and lost an eye would your friends be advising the same thing I wonder?
Becky
p.s. she looks absolutely gorgeous!

morgan star she is beautiful and as hard a decision as it is you will know in your heart which is the right one
but there is no reason for her not to lead a perfectly healthy happy life with the right owners which you will choose with your heart
and they will be the perfect ones whether its you and your oh or someone equally as suitable .
she is adorable looking an to be honest i had to look twice before i noticed she was blind in one eye .
