Colonoscopy anyone?

I'm having a bit of trouble with the old waste disposal system, and am seeing a consultant tonight (thank heavens for private health).

I strongly suspect he may want me to have a colonoscopy.

Anyone had one? What's it like? Does it hurt?

I'm dreading it......

No personal experience but a friend had one done and did not find it painful. He watched the screen through the procedure and found it quite fascinating. As he said - not many people can claim to have had a look up their own fundament

Fingers crossed that you will not find the procedure too unpleasant Vicki.

Thanks ZB - I've "looked it up" on the Net and it doesn't look too bad. Was just hoping for someone with first hand experience....

I had one a year or two ago, and unfortunately, I had a bad experience with it!
I was given heavy sedation, but they didn't give me enough, and I woke up half way through, at a painful part - they had just pumped air into my colon, and were going 'round a corner'.
They quickly put me back under though.

When I woke up later, the only bad thing was I had a lot of 'wind' lol

I wasn't allowed to eat anything for 48 hours before, and only allowed to drink water, or tea with no milk!
Also had to take some meds that gave me diarroeah, so my bowels/colon was empty

Hi Vicki, well I was offered one a year ago, but I declined the offer

However, I was in a ward where all the girls were having them the next morning. I do know that the nurses came round at 6pm. that evening and gave them some drink or other, which had them all running to the loo all night, even though they thought they had been emptied already after having taken laxatives. The girl next to me was quite graffic in her description of what she went through, but it all sounded ok (or do you want to know the truth???) She was laughing and joking with me after she'd just had it done so it can't have been that bad!!

I hope they don't find anything apart from a small blockage or something in you though, but you must be brave and get it done if that's what they want to do. Don't do what I did and chicken out! So good luck with it Vicki. I reckon the endoscopy thingy is worse than that though.

The really bad news is they only give you clear water for 3 days!!! I did that part!
