Puppy vaccinations - when should they have them?

Max went for his first jabs yesterday (8 weeks old). Apart from the fact the vet thought he was "an absolute darling" and took him round all the vet nurses to cuddle, she said that his second injections were at 10 weeks old and he could go out at 11 weeks.

Another pup from the same litter (his sister) went for her jabs yesterday (different vet surgery) and was told that the second lot would be given at 12 weeks and that she could go out at 13 weeks.

Why the discrepancy? Is it all down to individual vets and the vaccines they use? I trust the vet, but am concerned that the other pup's vet has told the owners she should have vaccinations at 8 and 12 weeks, and Max will be "out" 2 weeks earlier than Millie.

Any thoughts? Just don't want to expose him to anything earlier than he should be?

my pup is 14 weeks old had her 1st jab's at 8 weeks 2nd at 12 and was out 10 days after that. hope this helps/

Both of mine got their first vaccination at 8 weeks and their second at 10 weeks and allowed out between 1 and 2 weeks later.

It depends on what medication your vet uses and the recommendation of the producers of that medication and also the conditions in the local area with regard to the occurrence of infection.

Rosie had her first jab at 8 weeks, her second at 10 weeks at which time the vet said she was OK to go out that day in areas that weren't frequented by too many dogs as Rosie would already be protected from Parvo but to wait another 7 days until she was 11 weeks to go out in other areas.

I think it can depend on which vaccine the vet uses and also how informed the vet is about the modern vaccines.
In all cases you have to weigh up the risk of picking up an infection over the benefits of early socialisation.
I'd already been carrying Rosie with me a lot and even though she is small she was getting heavy by the time she was 10-11 weeks ( I have no idea how my back ever coped with collie and lab puppies!).

My pups are vaccinated at 8 & 10 weeks and out 1 week later.

He gets carried around a lot, and has been socialised (to an extent) with the other dogs his breeders own, as well as my sister's dog Teagan; he's also been introduced to lots of other people.

We've been careful to keep him off the floor in "public" areas as well (although he's getting very heavy also!)

I suppose it's up to the vets which vaccines they use and if they say that he's OK going out after 11 weeks, then that's what I'll trust

mine was done at 6 weeks while with the breeder and then at 10 weeks and was out at 11 weeks

8 and 10 weeks here .................but i know a vet that dose it 8 and 12 depneds on the vac
