Harvey. A gentle soul who had to leave far too soon.

My dearest Harvey

You were such a beautiful and gentle soul.
You were always loving and playful, always happy, always affectionate.
You always had a big smile on your face and were never in a bad mood.
You were fiercely loyal, my constant shadow.
You were totally trusting and far more intelligent than me.
Where ever I went so did you, we did everything together.
You had such a zeal for life and it was infectious.

You came into my life when it was at its darkest.
I had given up and wanted to leave this world behind but you would not let me.
You saved me, you saved my life but I could not save yours.
You gave me joy and happiness, you gave me unconditional love.
You gave me laughter and smiles.
You gave me companionship and friendship.
You were my confidant - we used to chat for hours and you used to talk back to me in your special way.
You knew and understood my every mood and I yours.
You never judged me, you just listened and loved me.
When my depression was overwhelming and my mood black - there you were just your happy self, you loved me regardless.
You were my protector and I was yours.
You gave me a reason to get up every day, a reason to want to live just so I could spend another day with you.
You were my best friend, I didn't see you as a dog, I saw you as the genuinely beautiful soul you are.
You taught me so many things.
You gave me so much more than I was ever able to give you or than I can describe here.

Every moment of everyday we had together was precious and I lived my life just to be with you.

I don't know where you are now but I hope you know just how much I love you.
I am so sorry my little lad that I had to make the decision to let you run free.
You had to go far too soon and the way you went was not right.
You were not ready and you didn't want to go and you fought so very hard.
Can you ever forgive me because I will never forgive myself?

My little munchkin, you were and still are my world, my one and only true friend.
You can never be replaced.

I was privileged to have shared your short life and be given all of the things you gave.

If you ever feel scared, alone or confused, or even just want to visit your old dad, seek out your ashes because where ever I am so will they be.
If I ever have to leave our house you will always be able to find me if you go to them, do not worry about that.

If you do visit, also do not worry if I am not there straight away because as you know some times daddy has to pop out to the shops but if you wait patiently as you always do, I will soon be home.

I will never forget you as you are part of me - always!

I cannot wait until we are together again soon but until then, run free gentle one but don't run too far away.

What a beautiful and moving tribute to an amazing boy. The tears are flowing here Kenny - in sadness because of your loss, but also in tribute to the love you shared with Harvey. I read somewhere that those we love never really leave us as long as someone remembers them - so many people on dogsey have learned to love Harvey because of the beautiful and loving way you write of him - we, as well as you, will remember him.
