Not an expert, but we got married in a registry office and couldn't have any kind of religious content in our ceremony or in the songs that were played. Don't know if that answers your question.

Wedding - church then a Priest/Minister carries out the ceremony. Civil ceremony is carried out by a registrar that is registered with council. I think. Both are legal

Actually, a wedding is to join in matrimony, to unite, to take a spouse, the ceremony of a marriage - it has nothing to do with being religious or non-religious.

A Civil ceremony contains no religious elements or anything with religious connotation, a religious ceremony is exactly what it says.

Ask away!!! Will talk for hours about the wedding - lol!!!

We decided on a civil wedding in a grand 400 year old school as neither ian or i are religious. We found it quite hypocritical to get married in a church if we never actually attended any services.

We did however, want a very traditional service and with the setting of the school it will be very grand and we have a bit more free reign to do what we like during the service as long as no religious content is used.

I have just booked a harpist to play during the service!!!

Sorry, told you i can go on.....
