Nail clippers for giant breed!

Can anyone recommend any decent clippers that can cope with our bordeauxs nails! The ones we use guillotine type just arent strong enough..

Have you tried Resco Nail Clippers?

They come with replacement blades and are better quality than those you buy in retail outlets.

Would a dremel/grinder work?

Haven't got one myself so don't know how effective they are.

The first time I cut Cain's claws I heard a collossal CRACK and panicked. Turned out the nail clippers plastic handle had snapped off and the claw untouched

I then went out and got a pair from Pets At Home by Mikki. Cain's not a giant breed, but he's pretty big with really tough claws. The Mikki ones get through them ok as long as you squeeze really hard

Personally, if they are tough nails I prefer to use a dremmel, nail file, or up road walking a little more. I find the dogs tend to be far more tolerant of that, than trying desperately to use nail clippers.

I second the guillotine type.

These are slightly cheaper and a very good make.

Worth a try at the price. I find mine are excellent and do not make a clicking noise which upsets some dogs

Would it help with the dremel or grinder if you got one and let him get used to the noise while you were just stroking his foot or something before actually using it?

Tried that with a lawnmower and he just picks it up and tries to run off with it.. But yes may well try and get him used to the dremel as it would seem ideal.
Samson thanks for the link but they look same as the ones we have and at that price I wouldnt hold out much hope on them being better than the mikki ones we have.
