Best treatment for preventing ticks

Morning all i generally use CSJ Billy no Mates on my lot for Fleas, and it seems to work well, however we are off up to Scotland in a couple of weeks and i would like to treat them to see if i can minimise the nightly tick removal regime.

So just asking what in your opinion is the best tick prevention treatment

You cannot prevent ticks but you can minimise their hang on.

Scalibor collars.

Good tip there, will take note!

For actual removal, especially from a suspicious, wriggly Springer I can't recommend the Tom O Tick remover enough, so easy to use, just make sure you have a jar of water nearby for instant death after removal!

You may find that the BNM works very well for repelling ticks....Jimmi has not had one single little blighter for nearly two years now, despite all around picking them up on a daily basis.

I used BNM without any problems but when I went on holiday in June to West Sussex, they were covered in ticks despite the BNM. Since we've been back, they've been tick free again.

I came to the conclusion that Southern ticks were made of harder stuff than Northern ticks!

The proper collars (not the ones you can buy in a pet shop or supermarket). Even tho' my dog is flea treated monthly and flea free, the boarding kennels insist on a collar too when she goes there because they are sited on 'farming land' where ticks are prevalent.

Vet says they don't stop ticks getting on her but will stop them staying on her for very long. He said there is nothing that will stop them getting on her in the first place (and I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows about something that will).

Ticks are a REAL big problem in the middle east.

I usually remove ticks with the O'Tom but wondered if anyone has had any experience of using the "Gotcha! flea killer comb"?
