demodicosis

My Dobermann puppy has developed a severe case of Demodicosis. Vet has prescribed monthly dose of Advocate (all purpose deflea treatment) and Piriton (antihistamine) which makes her drowsy and reduces her scratching. She now has lost most of her fur on head and is spreading down her neck and legs. She looks a fright with pimples all over her head and very wrinkly rough skin but is still happy. Does anyone have advice for a faster recovery?
