Pros and cons of rescuing please?

Just been thinking about my next dog. Part of me thinks that I know where I would do things differently, with the next one and it would be nice to start with a pup...another part of me thinks it would be good top be able to give a dog a home that needs one, compared to breeders pups (who usually have a waiting list) Theres also the fact that an older (but still young enough) dog can take part in longer walks that im hoping to be able to do with Loui this year and next. The down side is that perhaps an adult dog might actually curb our freedom on walks (leash manners, social skills, recall) would all depend, I suppose so whats your experience? And what do you think? Been in this predicament?

In some ways I'm not sure if I want to be rushing home for a pup, then going through "hyper-teen" stage

Sorry about typos, on my phone.

It's a big decision as I'm not sure I ever want to go up to 3 dogs..

Theres also only one rescue that I can use for my breed of choice and certain issues I cant take on due to circumstance, so it might take a while for me to get a rescue...in fact, I'm starting to think being on a puppy list with a breeder would be quicker! So I realise I will need to wait, I had thought, when the times right, whats for you won't go by you...but maybe losing a little faith in that theory

What is the breed?

Either way, a new addition be it a pup or adult is going to put you and your existing dogs nose out of joint for a while.

Which is the lesser of two evils will depend on the dog I guess? you could end up with a fantastic young adult rescue, a hyper young adult hooligan who requires tons of work, a fantastic puppy, a mad puppy...it is pot luck really!

I did consider a weimeraner but have settled on the fact that I defo want another dobe. Theres only one rescue that allows for my small section of 5ft fencing. Apart from that I seen one gsd girl that I liked the description of, look of, everything, but when I went back on her page she was reserved (so far not changed) That was more the individual dog and what she was like though..

I can't think of any cons to rescue if the rescue is reputable, knows their dogs and gets to know you
and you are honest.

mm puppies......

incontinence teething screaming sleepless nights runny poos teeth like crocodiles lead training house training socialisation frequent vet trips throwing up in the car eating your nickers 24/7 supervision playpens crates grey hairs vaccinations ...and then you get the teenage stage.
Which is why so many dog in Rescue are aged 1.

Which is when I like them.

So much depends on finding the right dog in rescue for your circumstances.

I have had two rehomed dogs before. One was my first dog and she had lots of issues that I had to deal with. I was quite inexperienced back then and I am sure I probably exacerbated some of the problems through lack of knowledge. However, she taught me a lot but was by no means an easy dog.

Another rehome I got at 3 years old and he is practically perfect. He is well trained, well behaved and fitted into my pack as though he had always been here.

I have recently brought in an 8 month old, breeder run-on, pup. He did upset the balance for the first couple of weeks, but has now fitted in brilliantly. I think I would be tempted to do this again if I decided against rescue. I do love pups but they are such hard work and you can't really "do" anything with them for the first wee while. With Zak I was able to get him out and about immediately. He was up for plenty of exercise, came ready house-trained (I think he is naturally clean as he came from a kennel environment), walks well on the lead and could come everywhere the rest of us went immediately which was a huge bonus for me.

Do you know of any Dobe breeders who run on dogs for the show ring or working and then sell them if not suitable at a later date? That could be worth looking into as well.
