I was advised some years ago to give EPO to my cavvy - but it was not for itchy skin, it was said to keep their coat nice and shiny.

For allergy type itching and redness - it was usually treated by antihistamine injections.

Just had a quick google on this. Seems lots of people say YES - it is perfectly OK to give piriton to a dog.

We were recommended epo for tobys allergies (although I'm not sure it did much). He also had piriton 4mg. Your vet will tell you what dose to give your dog. We just used to give toby one when he seemed to need it, or if i knew we were going in the fields all day. As long as you find out the maximum dosage for your dog then you can adjust the amount within that. You'll soon learn what works for your dog

From what I read it just seemed to say half a tab for a little dog and a whole tab for a big dog!

I would do as suggested tho' and ask the vet.

If you give your vet a call they will work out the exact dosage for your dog

THe vet that ran the National Certificate for Canine First Aid said that you can use 4 - 8 mg on a medium to large dog up to twice a day.

Small one 2 - 4 mg up to twice a day.

If your dog has an itching problem FBO Fish Body Oil is better than EPO as it is a natural anti inflammatory, EPO is not.

In addition to this you must give Vitamin E.

For a dog this size I would give up to 1000mg of FBO a day (make sure the DHA and EPA content is described) and 400iu of Vitamin E a day.

You may also want to try Vitamin C up to bowel tolerance try 1000mg per day at first. Vitamin C is a natural anti histamine.

Fish Body Oil contains both DHA and EPA (I can't spell these without looking them up, apart from the ACID part)
