Vaccinations

The Pups had their 2nd vaccinations today, and the vet said don't walk them for a week, or if it's anywhere thats more at risk (canal for example), don't walk them there for 2 weeks.

I have been walking them since I got them, as I believe they have some immunity from their Mum, also from their first vaccs, and I personally think getting socialised is important.

They have only been on the pavements so far, but thats because I haven't gotten to the park yet!

I also did the same with Teagan - walked her before the vets advice.

What do you all do? Follow vets advice? Or walk before vaccs finish, or don't vaccinate?

No debates please, not interested in who is right/wrong, ....im just interested to hear what people do

1 I do not vaccinate straight away.

2 I vaccinate about two weeks after arrival

3 My dogs go on the ground from Day 1 ie my youngest was running around the Motorway Services on the way home at 7 weeks old and 2 weeks before his first jab.

(I have omitted all reasons for above as requested)

Always give my pups 10-14 days to settle in, also long enough to see if anything is brewing up,
I do take them with me from day 1

It varies tbh depending on their age etc. 1 came with no vaccs, 1 came with first vacc, the 3 rehomes came fully vacc'd and my latest pup came fully vacc'd so it wasn't an issue. All of them have been out and about from day 1 but not on the ground outside until fully vacc'd and never had any issues with socialising any of them.

Pup is carried out and about until vaccinations are complete on ground as soon as second vaccination given. No more vaccinations after that.

Next time (if) I have another pup I would wait a bit before vaccinating

My breeder only gave the puppies when they were fully vaccinated and had waited one week after vaccinations. So when I got her I could take her out straight away.

In retrospect I think this was too late, Kestral is probably naturally nervous, but I think the lack of socialisation, seeing traffic, loud noises, men etc etc between 8-12 weeks was pretty vital and something she did not experience at the breeders.

If I was to get another puppy I would get them no later than 8 weeks old, carry them to socialise them before vaccs, and take them safe places where I know vaccinated dogs have been - ie friends houses, gardens etc. I would probably wait a week after 2nd vaccs before walking them in high risk places such as PAH.

I take mine out and about from day one with me. In my breeds socialisation is too important to delay imo.

me too. And of course I very rarely have pups. The only tiny pup I`ve had I found in the road anyway. A bit late to start isolating her.
