severed tendons

Hi
My dog cut its foot very badly severing all of the tendons to his toes The vet has managed to repair two of the tendons but the other two were to bad to save. Has anyone had this happen? How did your dog cope with only two opperational toes? What happens if the other tendons dont mend properly?
