My new Rotweiler cross-breed puppy doesn't like his crate! What can I do?

Me, my husband and my 15 year old daughter brought Anakin home last sunday. He is 7 1/2 weeks old now and he has been good most of the time. We put him in the crate on his very first day. He cries everytime we put him in the crate until he falls asleep. We put blankets with his mother's smell, toy and some treats in there but he still doens't like it. For the last two nights he has been sleeping in his crate in my daughter's bedroom which is downstairs but we moved the crate to the living room today since we had to take him out several times at night to pee. So, my question is, how can you make a puppy to go into the crate when he is tired? Nothing we used have worked so far! Also, how can you make a puppy sleep through the night? I thought they only had to pee once. Thank you!
