From the floor, to the withers!

Re: How do you measure a dogs height

lol...I know now I am open to lots of silly replies, like with a tape measure!...

But I was just wondering if there was a correct way to do it to get an exact measurement!?

Yep, get a tape measure.
Get your dog to stand, and put the tape measure, from the floor, to the highest point of the withers (do you know where the withers are?)

Or, you could get your dog to stand next to a wall, make a mark on the wall, and put the tape measure up against the wall

EDIT: Look HERE, and look at the picture, it has withers marked on it.

Stand your dog against a door post and using a washable felt tip pen hold the pen horizontally across the dogs withers and mark the door post.Move the dog and then use a tape measure to measure floor to pen mark which is the dogs height....hope this makes sense

Mys in the show ring they use a measure like a square ....
One way is to get a couple of bamboo canes and stick them in the ground, stand the dog between the canes and put a third across the withers then mark it off you can also use 2 pieces of wooden batton ..one on the floor upright, one across the withers and mark it off.

Use a spirit level across the withers to get a true reading and measure against a door or any other straight vertical structure In the ring, ob or show, they will use proper measuring sticks.
