Growling ?

Tyler pinched a chicken carcus yesterday out of the bin
My fault I left the bin where he could get to it,I did get it off him with no problem,no growling nothing

Tonight he stole a lid off a fray bentos pie
Again my fault I forgot about the bin(we are decorating so I moved stuff)
Luke went to take it off him and he growled at him
He had taken it into his crate, everything the dogs value end up in there crates
Anyway I went to him and again took it off him with no problem,he didn't growl at me and moved out of the way so I could pick it up.

He has never growled before when he has his food, and we have always made sure we put our hands in his bowl, obviously if it continues then it would be something we have to work on and deal with.

Memo to myself, move the flaming bin!

Could it be that Tyler is seeing look as a lower caste member of the pack?

All you can do is watch him...

oh and Tyler-proof your bin

I`d growl if I found treasure and you kept nicking it too!
Try a Swap next time. Swap a toy or treat for his wonderful find. Then you`ll both be happy.

I agree swap it for a nice kong with peanut butter, or perhaps a cool new squeaky toy.

Swap it, nothing to do with packs etc. Every dog wants to keep what it has got.

Moving the bin is good!

I vote for swapsies too - if any of my dogs steal something good and I want it back, I swap for a big treat and usually that works well.

We thought we had big problems with Bear refusing to give bones back but he seems to think swaps are a good thing and we have no problems now as long as he knows he will get something good in return, fair's fair after all

Yes it was naughty of him,but totally my fault for leaving the bin where he had easy access to it.

He was willing to let me have though without any problems, but if he does growl at Luke again I will try the swaps.

My issue wouldnt be that you left the bin, it would be that the dog stole it then acted inappropriately to your son. My concern would be that he sees Luke as somebody to exert his presence over.
