Well you'd need to have had a full frontal lobotomy to be less intelligent than most of the Mail reporters

This is hardly a headline grabbing story, the Police have deployed a helicopter, a lot of people, and the dogs, so they have been doing all they can, some clerk has posted the 'dog lost' thing 'cos the handler probably knew who to contact, the rest of the search team were likely too busy out on the ground looking for the man which is what everyone wanted and expected.

i understand why the police did that, and think the explanation they gave was reasonable. IMO a police dog should be treated like a police officer, after everything the do with their work. the police had also put a lot of effort into finding the man, so it wasnt like they were showing no care at all.
