ps.....no,not all vets are against breeding and no vet can insist they are done, unless there is a medical reason that is putting the welfare of your dog in danger.

Re: czech wolfs

Hi I have had bad time with vets as they seem to do what they wont and then hand you there bill I have a czech dog 16 mounths old and a czech bith 14 mounths old. I olso had a WGS 4 yaers old who has just lost her pups at 6 weeks. This happened last friday and i was sent home and told to hand deliver the dead pups and bring her back in the morning and they would deal with her then. I was horified as this was my first litter. I then went to the vet in the morning to be told to spay her as she could have more pups in side her. I asked for a sasairan but on picking up my bitch a was handed the bill and was told she was spayed. And know am told she mit have kidnay trnbill I am still in shock over the way I have been delt with. I also had to wash my dog as they never gave her a wash she was green, red, brown and black but she is a white German sheperd. And as for the bill which was 450. My czech wolfs are so well behaved and loveing evrey one that see them love them as they are so well balanced but the vet still want them done. the dogs have been given clean bill off health.

I think your vet sounds like an excellent person. And I`m right with him on the neutering.

Re: czech wolfs

I do appologise for my spelling errors but i am sure everone on this site has heard of dyslexia which is a learning disability and unintentional........ As for spaying i think it is unhealth and unecessary for genuine responsible dog owners and if i am not correct by neatering a male wolf dog does this not cause prostate cancer????? "The Adopter agrees to keep a male dog entire (un-castrated) and a female dog un-spayed. " Taken from a wolf hybrid breeder's website....

I do accept that everyone is entitled to their opinion on spaying but every breed is different and researching the wolfs for their health they are better not to be spayed or neautered...

do agree on spaying strays but as an responsible owner that decision should lie with them.....

My son is dyslexic - which is not,as most people think, an inability to spell long words!

Re: czech wolfs

Surely the decision to neuter or not is entirely up to you, as the owner. Unless there is a medical reason that you have been advised about, then do what you want and ignore anyone else!
I do what I want with MY dogs - they all get neutered

Re: czech wolfs

Vets like everyone else are individuals and don't all think the same.

However, your vet may have moral/principles where he may not like breeding purely for money and if he thinks this is your reason, perhaps this is why he is pushing so strongly (and where i would absolutely agree with him). Most good breeders spend years with the breed of their choice before even thinking about breeding.

As for your German shepherd, there may have been a whole host of health reasons why the vet spayed once he opened her up. I don't know enough about breeding to know for certain, but i would've thought that the fact that she lost a litter at 6 weeks wasn't a good sign and that for her own health it would be better not to try to breed from her again. Perhaps the vet should've explained his reasons to you, but perhaps he tried and you weren't in the right frame of mind to take it in?

As for spaying not being good for a bitch's health - that is not true. Unspayed bitches stand a far, far greater risk of pyo. I also do not think you are right about the prostrate cancer point, though would need to check that out to be 100% confident.

Not sure what the point of the breeders' clause about not spaying/neutering is? All this means is that the breeder wants to have the option of using any of these dogs in his own breeding programme at some later date - it is not for health reasons.

Claire

Do you have a problem with people that have dyslexia... I do try hard to spell my words correctly and as such times i am getting my daughter to write this for me. There is no need to offend my disability. As you are probably aware there are many different types of dyslexia, I thought this was about animal discussion not about learning disabilities in human beings. So please just stick to the topic in discussion
