Are the blackberries ripe where you live?

I picked a bag of blackberries when out with the dogs this morning and have a blackberry and apple pie cooking now - is it early for them to ripen? I`m sure I useually pick them in mid-august.

ooh, I haven't seen any (mind you, they're not as common round here), but I'm sure you're right - I always think mid-end August, perhaps even into September.

Hmmmmm, blackberry and apple pie - what are you having it with (or just on its own)?

We've got loads of raspberries but I have to keep sneaking out to pick them so Tilly doesn't see me otherwise she helps! She doesn't even like them, she just picks them & spits them out squashed!!

I've just come back from my walk. There were loads of wild raspberries but the blackberry bushes are miles behind - nowhere near being ready.

Hope you enjoyed your pie and custard C&D

Just a few Monday. I wanted to get back the other day, but looks like it will be next Monday at best. I may hit the peak.

Bit early yet up here.

We've a big bramble hedgerow which I let grow and it yields tons. Picked a few the other day but they're not quite ready. That said we're a bit further North.

Not yet ripe down here in Hampshire, you would be looking at early September. Can always tell because the fox poops are jet black, full of seeds and none on the bushes below fox-height!

By the way: the old saying goes... Never pick blackberries after Michaelmas eve, because the devil comes along and puts his foot in them.

Michaelmas is 29th September, and even if you don't believe in the above, the blackberries do start to get old and wormy about that time so it's a useful thing to remember.

They're not rip in Co Durham - they still have the flowers on!

The wild raspberries have been rubbish this year, but looks like there's going to be a bumper crop of brambles (blackberries).
