Tinned sardines - cooked?

Stupid question... but are tinned sardines usually cooked?

As they are a high source of omega 3 I thought I'd better give them a try!

Any serving/cooking suggestions?

I believe they are - I tried to give them to Bruno once but I got a look as if to say "what on earth are you feeding me ?"

Not got any particularly good recipes for it though, as I am not a fan of tinned fish. I am sure there is a Jamie Oliver recipe for tinned sardines though.... - is this for yourself or rocky ???

I have them cold - straight out the tin:-

if in tomato sauce I usually have on toast
if in oil - with a bit of salad.

I really like them .....when I'm in the right mood for them

Never heated them up...now you've got me wondering!

oh, just thought, though i haven't done it for awhile. If you like fish pie, you can make it as normal with white fish but add in some sardines or smoked mackerel (which is also high in omega 3).

Yes they are, and they are so healthy because you can eat the bones because of the way they are processed you just crunch them up, great for preventing osteoporosis!

I lurve tinned sardines in tomato on toast

Yes.

If you buy them in oil, you can drain off the oil and mix with tomato puree, veggies, herbs and rice/pasta.

You could do them in a fish pie, if you eat mashed potato.

You could have them on toast/ciabatta/whatever.

Have them in salad?

Fish cakes! Yum!

Sardines in oil, drained. Mash up with cooked broccoli (or spinach??).
Mix with some mashed potato and some breadcrumbs or flour.

Bake in oven at around 180 oC or so for around 20 mins.
