Well Lloyds TSB doesn't work like that..

I regularly pay in cash and cheques all together and the cash goes straight in..and usually if its lloyds cheques they are available right away too

Lloyds are cool, my DIL was skint with no money to get to work so I transferred some money into her bank account from my lloyds to her natwest it was available and in the account 10 minutes later.
