Greg had his first agility class this week.....

and he was great!! He was really well behaved, and picked it up really quickly! He mastered two jumps and through the tunnel ! He did walk on quite well, only problem was it was set up near a window and he kept stopping at the top to look at himself!!! Anyway he was really good, were booked on an 8 week beginners course so 7 more weeks to look forward to, I really enjoyed it too!
I was very proud of my crazy staffy being so well behaved!

I love how much people are very suprised, [ usually including the owners themselves ], are at just how well many Staffies take to agility

So many dogs [ all breeds ], have `working` instinct of some level and some variety, be it deeply hidden, lurking on the surface, to the very obvious, and when their `inherited` job is no longer available [ or rightly banned ], they still need something to use their minds and energy on.

Agility is just one of many great activities for this, to benefit the dogs - to give them something to learn, to focus on, to channel what they have in them basically which helps with developing good general training, socialising, fitness, and concentration - all which go toward dogs being happy, well balanced and positively motivated

If the media saw just how many fantastic Staffies there are on the Agility circuit, not just being good at it but the other aspects of how wonderful they can be around crowds of people, especially children, and yes surrounded by hundreds of other dogs at competitions, they might realise how much harm they [ the media ] have been doing to the breed with their horror stories in which they seem to try to include Staffies almost every time some incident happens somewhere. If a Chihuahua was caught on camera ragging a toy and looking cute at it I would`nt be suprised if the media turned it into a story about a Staffie shreding someone horrifically :smt021

So Adele4dan, [ me getting back on topic after a little grumble ], you are not just doing Greg a great service by giving him the opportunity to train and learn something fun, in the bigger picture you are one of the growing number of Staffie owners who are playing their part in showing just how terrific Staffies can be as a lovely breed which deserves better than the media dishes out.

We need more Staffies in Agility ! [ and other activities of course ]

And we need piccies of Greg strutting his stuff at training pretty please

Thanks alot guys, Thats exactly it! Staffies are great and agility gives them another chance to prove it! He absolutly loved his first go, im sure hes going to do well, There is a girl staffy in the class too, (they are already in love, been kissing under the chairs!) Anyway I will try to get some photos this week!

Taz did agility whilst we were at Dog Borstal and he loved every minute of it and he did well.... teh sad thing is i can't find anywhere local to take him and would really love too..... help???

Well done for getting started. I have just finished a beginners course and am waiting to start the next one. Two big tips....Always wear a belt or the right size trousers and keep you feet in the right place to avoid embarressing belly flops during timed rounds!!!
