I've always wanted a macaw but don't have the space for one. Do they need lots of room to fly or are they clipped? I know people who keep some and have a massive outdoor enclosure for them to fly in.

Thank you Luz
yes they do look illuminous and sometimes because of that it can be hard to get a decent pic

Random tbh if kept indoors macaws do not fly that much
they prefer to walk around
they can be clipped, it is up to the owner
we have never clipped any of ours but then most do live in avaries

Really? So one would live happily indoors?

Is there a difference between the greenwings and the blue and golds apart from colour? I really should do some more research. My friend keeps blue and golds and they have such funny little characters!

oh yes we had our Jaffa live indoors for 12 years b4 she went out in a avairy
blue and golds are smaller than greenwinged
greenwinged have huge beaks
and personally i think the blue and golds are friendlier too
and like you say they have such funny little characters.

most of my handreared babies go to people who keep them indoors

Thank you Jackie, I have never met any kept primarily indoors before so I always assumed i'd have to wait until I could provide a huge 'run' for them to fly in. My friend does keep hers indoors but they are let out to fly everyday and brought back in when they request. They seem like their home comforts, one even has a blanket that she loves, and she hides herself under it and makes a noise for you to find her! They are so funny.

You're going to think me a pain in the ass but are the scarlets different again? I've only ever met blue and golds but my friend swears they are the best as pets, but then she is biased, she adores her 2.

i have quite a few friends who keep their macaws indoors
most are handreared indoors so know no different
and when put outside really do not like it

Scarlets are like greenwinged quite alot bigger than blue and golds and personally i think abit more reserved, not so playful and funny like the blue and golds
i think the blue and golds are the jesters of the macaw
they are a handleable size and really funny, i,m abit like your friend am baised as we have 5 but saying that we have looked after 2 greenwinged and a scarlet, found them to be very beautiful but not like blue and golds
