Thanks to everyone for the good wishes and kind thoughts, I took Polo back to the vet yesterday as he was refusing to drink, but although stiff he is ok and not dehydrated, but is likely to be stiff and sore for 7-10 days. The vet said he was very lucky he didn't break any bones or kill himself, if the knock to his front jaw was enough to push teeth clean out and leave a ripped gum, that knock to his head might have been fatal.
Polo can now lift his leg and the tail is wagging a bit quicker but once on his chair (it gives him some support, so Deccy gleefully has the bed and me to himself) I have to drag him off to go in the garden or eat.
I told one of the Dalmatian people yesterday who I am in regular touch with, and she was very rude, accusing me of making it up as "there are no cliffs in Longford". We weren't in Longford, we were in Cavan. I am not going into semantics on what is a cliff and what is a steep slope and she upset me a lot. If she had bothered to come and see Polo she would have seen the effects which is what matters. I would like to have seen her struggling down, grabbing branches for support on the near-vertical drop, fighting through brambles and mud to reach a dog that seems unable to move.

well done to Deccy for finding Polo. What a fright you must have got, hope he recovers soon.

That Dalmatian person sounds a touch hard and lacking in understanding of the anxiety one feels when a beloved dog is in trouble.

I would have a fit if one of mine fell over on a flat paddock, let alone down a hill or over a cliff no matter the degree of the incline!
