As long as its the same router as yours it should be ok.

PC World should let you exchange if its the wrong one.

the router wont work with the speedtouch if i remember correctly.
the speedtouch will be a usb modem and the router needs an ethernet modem.

so you will need to buy an adsl modem router to get it to work.

and yes the way the phone lines are run is a tad dodgy.

its cheapish and a good make.

and will replace ehr modem completely.

im still confused as to the telephone sockets though, have they all got filters on and i mean all, so in her sons room and hers ?

Oh thanks for that Ceiron - you have just saved me making an expensive mistake

She has a phone socket downstairs with a filter on and one in her sons bedroom (son is 32 not a kid) and she says that one definitely has a filter on The wire has to go from the socket all up the stairs and to her sons bedroom and then back to the computer in the back bedroom so maybe this is why she is losing her connection? They told her in Pc World that no wire should run any more than 25ft or you lose the connection - do you think this could be it?

I don't think she will be going on wireless judging by the price of that router - she was only having that one cos it seemed a good deal cos the usb thing was with it as well.

Oh well back to the drawing board...............

meh the extension thing is so so

i have had mine on a 20m extension lead and been fine.

the price isnt that bad and ican find a cheaper one if your willing to buy online.

what i would advise though if she can si to move the pc downstairs to the main socket and try it down there and see if her connection still drops.

Right I have just been on the phone to her and apparently the wire runs from the downstairs phone socket through the ceiling and into the back bedroom where the computer is and THEN to her sons bedroom where a filter is plugged in and the sky box is attached - so I had it the wrong way round before

I have asked her if she can not put her computer downstairs but she said no cos she is having a fish tank there I will tell her to take it downstairs just for now to test it out though

Even when the sky box is plugged out it still won't work though. It keeps saying it cannot find the server.
