Adolescent (?) training classes. Any experience of training classes for older dogs?

I've posted before about Loki displaying increasingly dominant behaviour as he approached a year old. Now I'm reluctant to let him off lead in public places because he tries to dominate all other males (not violently but they respond in a violent way and the other owners get upset). However this is obviously resulting in him not being given an opportunity to socialise much with other dogs and this is a BIG worry.

Has anyone any experience with any older dog/adolescent (??? he's a year old) classes? Do they help with reinforcing commands, plus allowing careful socialisation? I'm so worried that he'll become unsocialised.

Any suggestions for the Herts/Essex/or surrounding areas?

I think the classes would do more good than harm LS i'd definatley give them a go I didn't get Jake until he was 7 months old so he was a late starter at the classes, in fact when I first got him he didn't even know how to sit on command so by Jake's standards Loki will have a head start!!

There is a fantastic club in Essex I cant remember the name offhand but it does everything from Kennel club obedience awards to flyball and agility so google it and see what comes up.

Good luck and sometimes late starters learn quickly Jake overtook the dogs who had been going from 10 weeks old so you can teach an old dog new tricks

Thanks Jake - we did puppy class at 3 months and have continued with his training but just to be around other dogs in a safe environment would be good, I think. We popped into a local class tonight but it was in a really small hall and I would prefer something larger. Essex wouldn't be too far away - I will have a look.
