Hi Jess

Sorry that the mate has flown away

I used to have lovebirds in my teen years, and it's a tough one, we had a situation where one of the mates died and the other got very distressed, however we gave her another companion but unfortunately she got even more stressed out and plucked all her feathers out and sadly died - we tried it all

If you have no joy locating the mate then do consider another mate but remembering that it might not solve the problem - but it's a good place to start.

Fingerscrossed that your wee lovebird flies back to its mate.

Best wishes with it Jess.

Oooh great news Jessica

I hope you can catch her

Or perhaps if u have an empty cage, you could put straight up to the male's cage and maybe she would go in there and you could close the "gate" when she's in??

Sorry I dont have any idea wot size they are really

Hiya Jessica, pleased shes come back, thats a good idea of jeanettes if you have an empty cage, or do you have two different sized cages, you could put the male in a small cage, shut it and put it inside the bigger cage with the door open. i've kept lovebirds for about 18 years. I just lost one this year at age 17ish, his mate who is much younger seems ok so far, hes a male as well which worked out quite well as they didn't get stressed out trying to breed. I have his cage sitting next to one of my African Greys and he has really taken a fancy to her, chatting her up

To add:A local small animal park lets its Lovebirds fly free through the day and they come back to the aviary each evening. They are really hardy little things

Good News! I now have the naughty little girl in a cage next to her man! She must have been hungry as she went in as soon as there was food in it and i just closed it all up quickly and she's sat out there eating (and she's just had a bath in the water bowl!) now!

The boy has been VERY upset that she's been flying around loose! He was screaming and flapping at her earlier! He seems a lot happier now that shes safely in a cage and they're just sat talking to each other!

Thanks to jackie, and everyone else, for the help!
