I personally would not attempt a veggie diet with my dogs. All those pointy teeth, front facing eyes, jaw muscles and prey drive are designed for something and it ain't grazing!

What is the wrong thing ? I haven't asked if anyone thinks it's morally right to feed meat, just is it nutritionally okay. I think probably not. It was really an academic question,

No. it's nutritionally bereft of the essential proteins etc that a carnivore requires. Read the link SmokeyBear put up on page one

sorry to go off topic ... but when i see children's menu's with vegetarian options it really winds me up! as they are specifically aimed at under 12's usually.

It is possible to feed a non meat diet that dogs survive on

But for them to thrive you would need a lot of work and a whole lot of suppliments
and I cant imagine the majority of dogs would really enjoy their food without some meat content

Whereas feeding meat is natural, easy and the dogs get a whole load of enjoyment from gnawing and tearing as they are supposed to

Just because you can do something dosent mean you should

I read SB link, that persuaded me that probably not ideal. All the rest is of intellectual interest. Thank you for your input everyone ,makes me realise why it is so difficult campaigning for farm animals, they don't get much sympathy, even with animal lovers.
