staffie has a limp

hi all
i just thought as there are so many owners on here of staffs if you could help me out. my staff seems to have a limp and i wondered if they suffer from this due to the way they are built. as the only reason i can think for it is that hes pull something.

do you think i should stop walking him for a few days or is it time for the vets again?

sometimes staffys can be over energetic - laminate floors can also be a problem when they have a mad half hour too (if you have any)

I get a bit paranoid about limps. If it doesn't improve after 3-4 days rest then please go to the vet. If he still is limping 3-4 days after whatever the vet prescribes then insist on an x-ray.

Does he get a limp often?
Patella luxation is a developmental orthopeadic disease of young dogs that affects the stifle joint and commonly affects the SBT.
The resulting characteristic lameness usually requires surgery

Heres a link for further info on patella luxation

http://www.staffords.co.uk/sbtvet/patella.htm

Forgot to add you can over exercise a young dog too-
try rest and see how it goes

Hello Fosters, you don't mention whether it is fore or rear leg, sadly due to the shape of some Staffords they can be prone to slipping Patella's. Hopefully he has just jarred it and it should come right with rest. I never let my dogs jump when the ground is solid with frost or baked dry in the summer months or should that be days, Hope he's better soon.

hi there

he hasn't had a limp before this one, and it looks like its his front left shoulder. he mainly jumps up at us when we come in or in his mad 5 mins, when he walks he doesn't jump much. so am going to rest him but would you say no walks for a few days or just short lead walks?

thanks liza

I would try complete rest, although that is virtually impossible with a Stafford, keep us up to date.
