Very very Sad news - Photo now added
Our old mare Harri died late last night aged 49yrs. I had a phone call from Patch to say she had started fitting and gone down (she had been happily grazing half hour earlier). So I rushed straight there and neighbours were holding her down to try and stop her hurting herself anymore and called the vet. The vet arrived and sedated her with a short acting sedative to stop the fitting, he hoped 30 mins later she would come out of the sedation and get up and be fine, but sadly she didn't come out of the sedation and the kindest thing was to let her go, her brain never regained function.
Vet thinks she may have had a brain tumour, otherwise she would have come round normally.
I remember getting her when she was 17 she had just weaned her first ever foal. She gave me many happy years of riding and competing until she retired in her 30's. Although my good friends daughter had started to ride her when I got my arabs and I then passed her full time care over to them with whom she stayed till the end. I was always part of her life as the old girl had been very special to me.
Thankyou Patch for getting hold of me last night (even if it was difficult) and for all your support and help.
Harri will be buried today in the field next to her best pal Pippit.
Run free my dear old girl.
Best friends now reunited Harri on the left with her best friend Pippit.
