After a judges ring caught my dogs nostril while she was checking my dogs teeth and causing it to bleed slightly, we decided to be the ones to show their teeth in future, which we did , but.... I was surprised when a judge said to me after a show, that he always finds it suspect if the handler shows the dogs teeth instead of allowing the judge to check them, as he felt they were doing it to either hide a fault in the mouth or a temperment issue in the dog, and placed the dog as if it had these issues? because of this I now take notice if the judge is a female, if she is wearing any large jewelry. and if she is I show the dogs teeth, if its someone not wearing any rings then I allow them to do it. to be honest I would prefer it if everyone shown their own dogs teeth and it was the norm, this way there would be far less chance of things being passed from one dog to another.
