Local MP Mike Weir attended a microchipping event in Forfar recently as part of a campaign being run by Dogs Trust.
The welfare charity is offering free microchipping for dogs at a series of events around the country and Mr Weir attended the session at Pets Hut to see how the process is carried out and to discuss the advantages of doing so.

Dogs Trust believes that the Scottish Government should introduce similar legislation.

The Trust also considers that compulsory microchipping will help to improve animal welfare, provide government with solutions to to irresponsible dog ownership and ease financial pressures on local authority services. Reducing the number of stray dogs in the UK is at the heart of its current free scheme.
