AN AYRSHIRE woman has been convicted of illegally selling puppies following a Scottish SPCA investigation.
Elizabeth Baird, 54, of Ballantrae, Girvan, was sentenced at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday (15 July).
Baird was found guilty of selling puppies in a public place, contrary to the Pet Animals Act 1951. She was ordered to pay a Ł520 compensation order to the people who bought the puppies.
Commenting on the investigation and court case, Inspector Andrea Middleton said, "Baird illegally sold two eight week old bichon frise cross chihuahua pups, one at Monkton and the other in Girvan, in September 2013. Both puppies subsequently died from parvovirus.
"One puppy was sold at a service station while another transaction took place in a car park.
