Two more shows may review their policies on docked dogs

THE CAMPAIGNING group Docked and Denied has reignited its crusade to persuade two more championship shows to drop their admission charges.

Doing so would allow legally docked dogs to be shown, as the law states that doing so is outlawed at events for which the public pays for entry.

And there may be light at the end of the tunnel for the campaigners, as both Leeds and East of England told DOG WORLD they may review the situation next year.

Hope it isn't! What a waste of time and energy for all concerned to simply remove the ban after so much protesting went into getting the ban in the first place. Can't see it happening to be honest. I think there would be to many welfare groups protesting against it.

What does 'legally docked' mean? Doesn't that really only mean working dogs? Aren't most working dogs normally not 'fit for showing'? Which show dogs would have a legally docked tail? Isn't the tail part of the standard and should therefore be visible in order to correctly judge the dog?
Anyway, call me a hippy but I'm against hunting and hunting with dogs in general, so to me, no docking is justified except for medical causes. And a docked dog isn't an appropriate representant for its breed.

Please note that it states "legally docked dogs" and not all docked dogs.

But don't you think that would allow a loophole for even breeders with predominately show line dogs to start docking again, knowing they can still show? As it stands right now we know that working dogs, with the correct paperwork can be docked, but not shown. Show breeders don't dock because they can't show otherwise.

I honestly do not know Louise, all I know is what is reported, whether I agree with it or not.

Seems like a backward step to me, and sour grapes by the pro dockers who really were beaten quite soundly on this.

The point of the review is to allow those dogs that have a working certificate and have been legally docked (will only apply to gundogs and terriers) to be shown at shows where the public pay entry fees....... they are already eligible to show at other shows that don't have entry fees for the public.

The ethos of the KC is "fit for purpose" and you cant get any fitter for purpose than a working dog that is duel purpose, but docked.......

The object is to allow these dogs to be shown at shows such as crufts .... docked dogs can be shown at crufts if they have been docked before 07, and disqualifying dogs that have been legally docked after 07 at a few shows in the year is madness.

it will not open the flood gates for docking willy nilly, all it will do is allow those dogs docked that work to be able to show at a few shows in the calendar.

Like, I'm just not sure where the line would be drawn. Or what would be stopping all breeders who prefer that look, but have otherwise up to now being prevented from docking, choose to dock again once showing is open to legally docked dogs?
