First cats and now dogs passing on TB to humans

Is this just more scare-mongering?

Britons have been urged to stay vigilant after it emerged that a dog had passed TB on to a child in the first ever recorded case in the country.

The youngster, who was under 10, was infected with bovine tuberculosis after catching it from their family pet in Gloucestershire last year.

It comes just days after nine cats were revealed to have been infected by the killer disease in an outbreak feared to have been caused by badgers.

I read about cats, didn't know it was affecting dogs too. Is it scare-mongering? The fact that they mention badgers might suggest so..

It would help if people stopped spitting in the streets. Disgusting habit they should be fined like people were in the 40's. I think there are fines still in place but it was more vigilant then due to the amount of tuberculosis cases.
My dad and Granddad both worked in the TB hospital in Brentwood in the 40's and 50's. The small children upset my dad the most who lost their lives.
I am not sure about the cat and dog thing.

My father had TB when twin and I were about 12. He was in a sanitarium for 11 months.

At the bottom of the article about TB there is more information on the "Alabama Rot" story.

I do wish the Daily Mail wouldn't resort to scaremongering to sell their miserable rag! The outbreak in Newbury was over a year ago and there have been no cases since.

Incidentally, the story about cats and TB is also in The Telegraph

Cat to cat transmission of TB among family pets in the Home Counties cannot be ruled out, according to officials

TB was bad when I was a child. Two neighbours - both next door to us on the landing where our tenement flat was, had it. The man who had it was in a Sanatorium for 18 months. The other woman neighbour was bad and in her bed for months. My mum used to go in to see her and help her husband look after her.

Never realised dogs could take it, far less pass it on to humans!

Thanks for sharing that, Malka

I always look for a 'supporting credible source' when reading stories from links to the Daily Fail.
