Freedom Project - Settling In

We've had a really good weekend with the dogs. A is really settling in now - no 'accidents' for 3 days, eating all her food, sleeping through the night, curling up to sleep with Bryan.

We let her off lead for the first time this morning and were really impressed with her recall. She had a great time running around with Bryan and Benson. Even when they ran off to investigate the next field ov...

Freedom Project - Meditations

One of the reasons I decided to write this blog was so I could write about how it feels to foster a dog. I never could have imagined how much of an emotional rollercoaster that first day was going to be!

I'll be honest - my first impression of A wasn't a good one. As our project worker brought her round the corner to meet Bryan she was straining at the leash (just out of excitement) an...

Freedom Project - Day Two

Our first full day with A went really well. Bryan and A started to play properly. They haven't fought over toys - fingers crossed - and seem to be getting on really well.

A was really funny last night. I think in her last home she was allowed to sleep on the bed as she keeps jumping up there. Bryan already sleeps some of the night on the bed and there's no room for 2 dogs so A isn't allowed...

Freedom Project - survived the first night!

We had a fairly uninterrupted night last night although A peed on the landing. She did try to tell me, but I think she was too desperate by then. When I went into the front bedroom to dry my hands after cleaning it up I found a small poo too! So no food for her after 6pm from now on.

She and Bryan settled really well last night both in their own beds on my bedroom floor. I was a bit concern...

Freedom Project - New Arrival

Our new foster dog is here. She's a pure staffy, not a cross as we thought. I can't put her name or post photos that we take, but the Freedom Project are going to provide me with some photos of her. So we'll call her A.

There was a bit of a hairy moment when Bryan and A met. They sniffed each other then a little scuffle broke out. Both were on their leads so it was stopped very quickly. T...

At the carwash...

I had to go get my car washed today (well I didn't have to but thought I may as well) and took Takara with me.

As I was driving to the handwash I was a little concerned that I should've brought Takara when there was someone in the back seat to praise and reward her while she was in her crate in the boot but hey! we were on our way.

When we got there, I pulled up and waited. At this ...

Freedom project - New dog arriving tomorrow!

Our new addition is arriving tomorrow afternoon. So we've been thinking today about 'house rules'. Our dog gets to sit on the sofa and sleeps in our bedroom (getting on the bed in the middle of the night). I know the new dog is allowed on her own sofa so we'll probably let her on ours (space allowing!).

I need to decide where to put her bed. Bryan's is in the corner of the room and he has a...

Freedom project - 3 days to go

I spoke to Sam yesterday and she told me our foster dog will be arriving on Tuesday between 11 and 12. They're bringing me a long line so I can leave her out in the garden with Bryan (she jumps fences apparently) and a crate for her to go in when we go out.

I ordered a large Kong yesterday from Doggie Solutions and it arrived today! I was really impressed with how fast it arrived. I also got...

Freedom Project

I got a phone call yesterday from Dog's Trust to say they have my first foster dog ready. She's 3 and a half year old staffy cross. They're bringing her either today or Monday. They don't want to leave her on a Friday as they are out of the office all weekend. So if there are any problems I wouldn't be able to get hold of them.

So I'm sitting by the phone waiting to find out which day she's...

Buddha leaves me.

I am so sorry to say that I failed Buddha. I worked so hard with this 6 year old not neutered dog, hoping that after he was neutered his attitude would adust. And, it did, but not enough to prevent him from attacking the fence whenever a stranger approached my fence.

Buddha came to me from a surgical tech student who was doing his clinicals at the hospital where I work in surgery. His girlf...

Heartbreaking

Not sure as a parent how you can imagine the heartbreak of what this family is going through at the present time,I know I can't.
Why oh why is life so unfair and cruel.
