In Praise of Mrs. Losos

Hi all,

As some of you may know I managed to break my bloody ankle two weeks ago and this has meant that I can't walk (except on crutches) and I am in effect completely useless.

So Mrs. Losos has had to do everything for me, carry stuff from room to room, prepare all my meals (I usually make my own breakfasts) do the shopping, walk the dogs, clean behind me (She says she's u...

My Mummy Deserted Me! - Leon (English Setter)

I've had a bit of a trauma today...mummy only went and left me with Nanny Parrish while she took her car to be MOT'd

I've met Nanny Parrish a couple of times but I don't really know her..not like I know and love my other nanny and grandad in Essex...she is very nice and gives me big cuddles but she has got two pussycats that scare me cos their eyes go all big when they see me...and the...

Boo is back from vets.

We got Boo back from the vet this afternoon. Her spey operation went fine. She was a bit of a naughty girl though at the vets. Apparently she was kennel guarding really badly so the vet had to catch her with one of those poles.

I did warn them she is fear aggressive (especially towards men, so luckily the vet was a woman). The nurse asked me to get her out of the kennel because she'd been s...

Vet visit

We took Boo and Bryan to the vet today. They were pretty well behaved in the car. So much so that we're thinking about taking them for a little drive into the country tomorrow to play in the river.

Boo was brilliant in the vet's. She wasn't scared and stood nicely to have her microchip put in and her vaccinations. According to her owner she hasn't had a season so we're getting her speyed on...

Aggresion

Is aggression more common between bitches when one of them is in or has recently been in season?

One of my bitches started her season three and half weeks ago. It seems to have finished now, but the two bitches (who normally get along well) seem to be fighting over bones / toys more frequently at the moment and quite aggressively.

They are field cocker spaniels, nearly three years old ...

Panic over!

Today we have a totally different Boo!

After we'd been out this morning for an hour, I fed both dogs then had a stuffed kong ready for Boo and a biscuit ball for Bryan. I asked Richard to keep an eye on them while I made our breakfast (yep, the dogs get fed first in this house ).

Once they had finished with their Kong and biscuit ball they started wrestlin...

Not sure what to do...

Boo and Bryan had a bit of a scrap today. She just gets so excited and wants to play, but she's too rough. She gets on top of Bryan and he doesn't like it. So I have keep stopping her playing with him. It's really hard to distract her though - I've tried food, toys, removing her from Bryan, getting her to sit. It's like she goes deaf - but only when she's trying to wrestle with Bryan.

Anyw...

Meet Boo

Our new foster dog arrived yesterday afternoon. She's a 7 month old black lab cross (possibly a collie). She's quite small, just about an inch taller than Bryan. She was much too frightened to come to us on Wednesday and had shown some aggression. So they assessed her at Dog's Trust and found she was fine once she'd got to know them.

When Lou got her out of the car I ignored her. We walked...

Oh No, I've Lost My Tiger - Leon, English Setter

As some of you may know, I have this lovely noo noo..he's in the shape of a tiger and I take him everywhere with me..I can't leave the house or greet people without having him in my mouth..he's a great comfort to me and since I've had him he has become all limp and spongy. The neighbours love it when I walk past with him in my chops..some passing vehicles have people in them that look in astonish...

False alarm....

I got a phone call this morning from Sam at Dog's Trust. The puppy that was supposed to be coming to us today is too traumatised to go into a home, especially with another dog.

They picked her up yesterday and kept her at the veterinary suite overnight. Apparently, they can't get a lead on her because she snaps at anyone who comes near her. She's so terrified of everything. It sounds like s...

I spoke too soon!

Guess who rang today? The Freedom Project

They have a seven month old, black lab cross, bitch for us. I can't remember her name She sounds pretty well trained, not aggressive, knows two commands, has good recall, doesn't chew but does dig in the garden (Bryan will teach her a thing or too about that ).

They're going to bring a crate for her to go in because she's so...

No foster dogs here...

I've been having a mini-break from fostering for the past couple of weeks. We were invited to stay with friends in Stafford for a long weekend and because Pudding went home it was just easier not to get another foster dog until we'd been away. Bryan came with us and spent quite a bit of time hiding from small children who wanted to stroke him to death

I've recently set up an online sho...

Jasmine's pregnancy

Thought I would let you all know that my darling Jasmine is due to whelp around the 1st June 2009. This will be her final litter. 2 years ago she had a singleton pup, our darling Flora, who stayed with us. This time I'm pleased to say she is definitely having more than one......as you can tell by the pictures below!

How our 'pack' works!

Well, there seems to be a lot of debate at the moment in the forums about the 'theory' of pack structure in human/dog relationships, dominance etc. I, for one do believe that humans should occupy the alpha positions in the relationship. In my experience, you don't have to work hard to maintain that position with a well brought up and socialised dog. Probably with a dog with 'issues' you would h...

Pagan's pups now 9 1/2 weeks old

Pagan's pups are now over 9 weeks old and are running rings around the rest of the pack.

Most have gone to their new homes but one is being kept for someone, one I am keeping and there is just one remaining to find a home for.

They are really bold, confident and naughty puppies - they love nothing better than tugging at my washing until the pegs ping off the line - then they race down the ga...

Training my dog to' go place '

Hey
Lately i'm training my dog to go place. This is when people enter the house and i tell Romeo to go to his cushion ontop of the stairs and then allow him to greet people on my command.
I was doing this because we live on an estate with a busy road and he could dart out if he saw a cat and then poof no more Romeo.
Anyone had any luck with stuff like this?

5 yr old Boxer with heart murmur

I took my Boxer, Harley, to the vet for his annual check-up. The vet detected that he has a heart murmur. When Harley was a puppy, a heart murmur was detected but disappeared until now.

Harley is 5.5 years old and full of energy. However that energy fades quickly. It takes him forever to cool off, he pants forever. Harley has also dropped 7lbs in 1 year. The doctor said the heart murmur coul...
