I would have done more than leave the husband---I might well have killed him.

Poor you.

Mine sort of did and then gave in a few times. I did rehome the horse and then I so regretted it, if a relationship is going that way then it isn't worth trying to 'save' it IMO. The dog or horse is just a focus for other problems.

My husband regularly tells me that the little dog has to go (not the big one though!).

Both dogs are still here!

Not quite, but one of my past relationships did break down because I got a dog. The ex was against it although agreed under duress and then he moaned because the dog "took over my life" and I spent all my time with the dog instead of him. Needless to say we split up, I kept my dog and became a very happy, independent single woman (for a while anyway LOL).

Sorry to hear what happened to you Steph. You must have been distraught

My OH would never say it! He says Cookie is his boy and I will admit he is quite a bit of a Daddy's boy at times. I think he would get rid of me before Cookie, and I would be the same with him.
He has however said I either get the dog or him on the bed, not both, so they now seem to take it in turns. I even have a picture of OH on the dog bed

OH knew from the get go that if he ever made an ultimatum like that, he'd be gone! I can understand how dogs can cause problems in relationships but we're adults and can discuss things, make compromises, make decisions together, etc., someone who makes ultimatums isn't the kind of person I want to be with - first it'll be me or the dog, then me or your friends, me or your family, etc. - it's a controlling way to deal with things.
OH did very frankly say to me that the situation with the foster dog we had over Christmas was very stressful to him and that she definately had to go back to kennels - I did try pleading a little but rationally I could see he was right. The compromise was that we muddled along keeping the dogs seperate for the week and a half, rather than taking her straight back. Voila, adult decision made, no ultimatum needed.

I know violence is never the answer and all that, but seriously I think I would have killed him. And I don't mean that as a saying, I can't believe the vet would just have a dog PTS like that. Poor Toby and poor you
