Can small dogs enter agility?

Hi! I have a shih tzu X chihuahua puppy who seems more agile and very quick than usual, certainly more than my last two dogs. She is going to be reasonably small even when fully grown, but I thin she would love this sort of sport. Question is are there classes and competitions specifically for this small a dog? many thanks X

Yes! There is a small categorie for dogs under 35 cm (1ft 1.75 in)

Definitely recommend agility for small dogs, it's so much fun and a great way to keep the dog fit and stimulated.
When I competed with my dogs (in medium) there was a lady with her two prague ratters and they always won stuff. They loved it and they were absolutely tiny!
Of course there are some dogs that are too small to even do small agility with them ('teacup' chihuahuas etc.) and you'd have to see how your dog gets along.
But normall there's nothing that says you can't do agility with your small dog

Oh but obviously you can only start doing agility when your dog's body is fully grown, and I think in the UK competitions start at the age of 18 months!

thanks all. next year when old enough to do this will look into it more thoroughly. She is going to be about the size of a very small jack russell/large chihuahua. She's nowhere near a teacup dog even now! Think she would love it and do us both good to socialise! many thanks agai. X

they certainly are. And the person who took them has a GSD, so to understand just when to take the photos, just the right split second, of very small dogs is especially great. x
