Help needed , Camera buffs please!

Ok , I am looking to buy a new camera, I want something that has at least 6 megapixels and around a 10/12 optical zoom (sounds like I know what I am talking about , I dont)

I dont want one that is to big and bulky , need to carry round with me, I already have a fugifilm f11, but want one that will take really good distance shots, it has to be easy to use, and cost wise up to around £350 ish, less if poss.

So any Camera buffs out there, HLEP!!

£350 will just get you into the entry level digital SLR range.

Nikon D50 or perhaps Canon 350D.

They may be a bit bigger than you want but picture quality is far better than a compact digital of the same mega pixel as the sensor is much better.

You can also add to it.

I still feel the need to pimp the Fujifilm S5600, and its bigger brother the 6500. You can afford either of them easily with your budget, they're not over-complicated and have a X10 zoom. I have the 5600 and it is with me everywhere

I have a canon 350d and it's fab but be warned the standard lens it comes with really isnt good enough for distance shots you need minimum of 300mm.

Great, I new you would come up with something, question, what does SLR mean.

I looked at a Nikon D40 a bit more money , it looks easy to use, what do you think,

will have to look at the ones you have all mentioned, it has to be idiot proof

I can go up in price a little, but wonder if it will be lost on a camera novice. I just want to be able to take good distance shots,

I guess from what you are saying I will need to by an extra lense??

Thanks guys

Hang on one cotton picking minute!! You said not big and bulky? Well SLR's are big and bulky! You cant put them in your pocket, you have to have a bag, you need to change lenses for different shots and conditions etc.. You sound like you want a compact digital, maybe a Canon Ixus or Nikon Coolpix.

You may be close to me, (Walsall) you would be welcome to look at my Canon 400D SLR if you think it might be what you want, get a feel for an SLR if you wish.
Dawn.

Single lens reflex ..what you see in the viewfinder is what you get

They are bulky but for distance I don't think you'll get it with a compact

The 400D is the upgrade to the 350D.
http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...400D/index.asp

All true SLR's have interchangable lenses. Lenses are expensive, ranging from around £90 to over £5000! The lenses I have are probably worth more than the camera! SLR lenses are essential for good pictures but as I say it can be incredibly expensive. Best of luck, offer still stands, if you want to play with my camera and Im near enough, you are welcome.
Dawn.
