This question is like "When did you stop beating your wife"!
I`m not playing because
a) I`m not male and never will be thank heavens
b) my dogs don`t speak Greek and therefore don`t know their alpha from their epsilon.
c) there is a hidden agenda here that assumes I buy into the Dominance Theory - which I don`t
d) I know better ways to train my dog.

There is an excellent article in one of the dog magazines this month.

A wonderful witty take on this theory.

Will have to see if I can find it

I voted other, as I don't feel I fit into either category.

I do think that dogs need to respect you and need to see you as the "boss", rather than "alpha leader"! I think it comes down to setting boundaries and make sure everyone understands and respects them.

The option "living in harmony" seems to assume that if you are your dog's leader or boss then you don't live in harmony with your pets - and therefore your pets are unhappy in some way - so I don't agree with that comment, sorry.

other
i live in a symbiotic relationship with another species

alpha stuff is flawed and the people who started it have said they got it wrong

the alpha wolves are the parents teaching their offspring how to behaive as wolves, so in that respect in a kind of way then yes
domestic animals are forever in a juvinile state so i am teaching young wolves how to exist happily in a human world
i do that by makeing it rewarding and fun to work for me, trying to be fair and consistant, rewarding behaviour i like and trying to teach an alternative behaviour for stuff i dont like

Perfect!!!!

I also found it odd that the poll has excluded female dogs and female humans

I have voted other as i find it hard to fit in boxes like this. I would like to see myself as respected and loved by my dogs, just like I do them. I see it as my duty to earn that love and respect but just like a parent it is also my responsibility to provide and care for them and that does include setting their boundaries and to help teach them how to behave in life. I certainly would never see myself as "dominating" them though. Does all that make sense?
I think the "alpha" or "pack leader" theories can, like a lot of methodologies be quite damaging when taken to extremes.
