Dogs beach ban catches just one owner in a year

JUST one person was fined for flouting a summer dog beach ban in Lee-on-the-Solent.

It comes as dogs are now once again banned from part of the beach and Stokes Bay until the end of September.

Each summer the exclusion zones start from May 1 and dog walkers face getting a Ł75 fixed penalty notice.

But a Freedom of Information request has revealed just one was handed out in 2013.
Dog walking is banned in two areas at the beaches in the summer. The first area is between Pirates Cove and the Beach Road car park in Lee-on-the-Solent.

And dogs are also banned between Pebble Beach Cafe and the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service headquarters, at Stokes Bay.

As they can only fine a person if they are caught in the act, I wonder how many others might have flouted the ban.

No one will ever know will they? As they only take their figures from the number they caught.

Maybe all dog owners in the area took heed?

Or perhaps there's better beaches for dogs elsewhere nearby!

Council here have only fined two people in the whole of last year, that's across the whole island, and neither of them were for flouting the beach ban, it was for failing to clear up after their dog, and with the amount of dog mess covering footpaths, makes you wonder why it was so low, and what the dog wardens are doing all day.
