The article discusses neospora, not toxicara.

I know tang but correct me if I'm wrong but it's toxicara that causes blindness - I'm keeping out of the neospora debate because I don't know anything about it

You are not wrong about what toxicara is responsible for but this is still a thread about neospora!

I know! But I was posing the opposing argument - that my boy Ben has been made ill by cattle grazed on the top of Borough Hill, a public park open to dog walkers, horse riders and walker. Then a load of posts appeared about how difficult is it anyway to pick up ... a sentiment with which I heartedly agree ... I then raised the point that there is far too much fuss made about dog poo ... hence the subject of toxicara had to be mentioned, because it was in context. Toxicara CAN cause blindness, but it is rare in the extreme. The point I was trying to get across is that the dangers of dog poo are grossly over-exaggerated, and that cow poo contains nasties too ... as Ben found out.

This thread is entitled "Campaign launched to combat dog mess blight on farmland" ... not neospora btw

I don't really care what poo causes what just don't want to be stepping in other people's dog's poo myself and keeping mine on leads in these areas they don't get near cow poo at all. So keep dog on lead and pick up your poo and I will be happy, and I would guess the farmers will too.

Julie, Ben is on the lead too around livestock, but he treads in it, you can't help it. It is on his pads, it is on our shoes. It is ridiculous to suggest that somehow by keeping the dog on the lead then there is no problem.

I am trying to paint the other side of the picture here ... dogs can get ill from cow poo, it is not all one sided.

Well I would avoid farm land then but I have to say we manage to avoid stepping in it or the dogs getting to it, we used to come home dogs covered in it but we learned and now we come home cleaner.
