Anybody know of anything that can help with anal gland problems?

Tegan has them emptied at the vets regularly but then a day or 2 later shes scooting across the floor again.
I've heard that you can give all bran in the food also heard that canned pumpkin pulp helps too but I can't seem to find any in the U.K. I would have no idea on the amount to give her.

Can anybody advise on anything I can do to help her alleviate the discomfort?
I have asked my vet about the bran and pumpkin but she said she had no experience of it helping anal gland problems.

That advice was a bit naff from your vet wasn't it?! I can't believe she said that!

Our male has suffered from full anal glands smelly bum syndrome, yuk. He only had problems when he had a runny tummy (he's a nightmare for a sensitive tummy and getting dioherrea) so for him I found feeding raw bones once daily - a chicken wing or 3 for his lunch - help harden his stools and therefore the glands seem to empty themselves on their own more now.

But if your dog already has 'good' stools i'm really not sure, sorry (same as your vet - but she's qualified and paid to advise LOL).

I was told that a few oats sprinkled daily in their meals help? But i'm not a fan of feeding too many grains so haven't tried it.

You can actually get a dogs anal glands removed, but i don't say this lightly, I know of a dog that has become incontinent since having his removed

Thanks akitagirl,
Her stools are almost always firm.
I was quite surprised with the vets reply to be honest.

I just don't want to be giving her something that may either give her the runs or bung her up if you know what i mean

Ruperts not had anal gland issues since being given raw meaty bones regularly. Before he had to have them emptied every few months but we've been almost 2 years without them being done now.

She is wormed regularly and I have checked her poo and cannot see anything.
She is going back to the vets next week for her booster so I am going to speak to the vet again.

I give mine protexin pro fibre as they both had anal gland problems, both seem fine now, I have also changed to raw as well so that may also have helped.
