Carla ~ Loves People, Needs To Be Only Dog - 6yo Black Greyhound

CARLA

**UPDATED: MAY 2013**

Location: Still in previous home in Norfolk, UK.
Key Points: Very affectionate, loves people, big cuddler, house savvy, walks to heel, needs home as only dog, travels well.

Dear Carla is a black ex-racing greyhound girl who is now 6 years old. Carla was rehomed about 2 years ago, but must sadly look for a new home now due to her owner’s failing health. We hope that someone can give this lovely girl a space on their sofa.

Carla has a gorgeous shiny black coat and is in good health. She is perhaps a bit on the ‘chunky’ side because her previous owners haven’t been able to walk her as much as they would like. Otherwise though, Carla is a gorgeous girl with no complaints at all.

~ Personality ~
Generally: Super affectionate, loves hugs, plays, adores people, can live with children over 8, easy to keep happy.
Carla is a real people dog and loves human company. She gives great cuddles and loves to get chin rubs and ear scratches. She is a confidant lady and used to living as an only dog. She is happy as can be provided she gets plenty of human company. This darling girl really doesn’t ask for much more than a daily walk, a soft bed and a decent quota of daily lovins’!

~ In the Home ~
Generally: House savvy, ok to be left, housetrained, good manners, suitable to live as an only dog.
Carla has lived in a home for the last 2 years, so is very comfortable and mannerly in the house, though she isn’t overly fond of laminate flooring. She is completely housetrained, ok to be left for 3-4 hours, not destructive and is quiet through the night. She loves her toys and likes a daily goof around the garden with her squeakies.

Carla is used to living as an only dog and really is happier this way. She would be a perfect dog for a middle-aged couple, or for someone who works at home and wants a bit of company during the day. Once she learns the daily routine she practically tells you when it’s time to eat or walk, and is very content to follow you around the house as you do your daily chores. Carla also loves kids and would be fine to live with children over the age of 8. She loves to play and be cuddled and could be a great family friend.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Can be wary of other dogs, best suited to live as only dog, not small dog or cat friendly.
Dear Carla has unfortunately never really understood dogs and their language, and has remained uncomfortable around them since day one. She is ok with calm greyhound types who generally ignore her and leave her be, but she can get very tense when meeting bouncy, pushy or excited dogs of any breed. She remains a bit confused about small dogs and whether they are actually dogs, or things to be chased, so she can get excited when she sees them in the distance. This is an issue that will require daily, gradual work to overcome, and right now Carla would need to be muzzled if she is to be around small dogs who may run up to her. Carla’s ideal home is one where she wouldn’t meet that many other small dogs, as they can stress her out.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, travels well, friendly to people, nervous of other dogs.
Carla walks really well on the lead provided there are no furry temptations around. She is not bothered by noisy traffic or busy areas. She will pull if she sees a small dog in the distance, however. She travels excellently in the car, and loves meeting new people when out on her walks. She can walk well with other greyhound types, though needs to be watched when being introduced to other dogs for the first time. Due to her reaction to other dogs and small animals, we feel that Carla would not be suitable to be let offlead unless the area is completely enclosed and safe.

~ Where Can I Live? ~
Carla would be a fantastically loving, quiet and gentle companion for someone who works from home or just wants some daytime company. Because of her long-standing issues with other dogs, Carla would be best going to a home without other dogs but one familiar with greyhounds and how they can tick. The absolute ideal would be if she didn’t meet that many when out walking either. Apart from this concern, Carla is no trouble at all and is incredibly easy to keep happy. She has simply oodles of love, affection and sofa-snuggles to give to the right home situation.

~ Where Am I? ~
Carla is currently residing in her soon-to-be previous home in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us.

Carla also loves kids and would be fine to live with children over the age of 8. She loves to play and be cuddled and could be a great family friend. Carla is currently sharing her foster home with another greyhound, and after a few initial grumbles, they have settled ok. Really for Carla to get on well with a canine housemate, they need to be fairly confident in themselves and not react to her occasional grumbles.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Can be wary of other dogs, best suited to live as only dog, can share with self-assured canine friend, not small dog or cat friendly.
Dear Carla has unfortunately never really understood dogs and their language, and has remained uncomfortable around them since day one. She is ok with calm greyhound types who generally ignore her and leave her be, but she can get tense when meeting bouncy, pushy or excited dogs of any breed as she doesn’t know how to interact with them. She remains a bit confused about small dogs and whether they are actually dogs or things to be chased. This is an issue that will require daily, gradual work to overcome, though Carla has made good progress since entering her foster home. She doesn’t pull as much on the lead as she used to and is getting better at passing dogs without reacting when out on walks.

Carla would be a fantastically loving, quiet and gentle companion for someone who works from home or just wants some daytime company. Because of her long-standing issues with other dogs, Carla might be happiest in a country home where she didn’t meet that many canines when out walking. Apart from this concern, Carla is no trouble at all and is incredibly easy to keep happy. She can share her home with another dog provided they are assertive and confident around her. She has simply oodles of love, affection and sofa-snuggles to give to the right home situation.
