Sad to see dogs in kennels for so long - I hope they are rehomed soon. At least they are safe with you.

Hi, thanks for replying.

It is sad that the longer stay dogs haven't found their forever home yet but the animals are not kept in kennels instead the rescue use a network of foster carers. Most of the animals are kept with Theresa and the dogs are are free to roam about with each other, they are content and safe but it would be nice for them to find a permanent home.

Thanks for reading.

Wishing you a merry xmas

Hi, the rescue is located in Sheldon, but some of the dogs are with foster carers at other locations around Birmingham.

Rehoming with another dog is fine, and would probably be preferable, but it depends on the individual dog, as all the dogs are castrated or spayed most are well socialised and used to being in an environment with other dogs.

The rescue doesn't rehome to all-day workers. The charity only rehomes where the pet is left for a maximum of 4 hrs per day on it's own.

If you have any other questions please ask away.

Best regards

Mark

Does this mean on its own soley, or is being with another dog classed as company?

I have asked this of a load of different rescues, but they don't seem to answer.

It means the dog has to have human interaction every 4 hours.

Dogs were bred to be human companions and it doesn't seem fair to leave them on their own all day. It is not the policy of the rescue to do that, whether there is another dog there for company or not.

By leaving dogs all day they may exhibit separation anxiety and have destructive behaviour like chewing, etc if they are stressed out.

I doubt many places would rehome a pet with all day workers. Having a dog sitter/neighbour spend some time with the dog everyday, or working part-time or self-employed or flexitime hours or something would be more appropriate for the dog.

Hope this helps.

I made the website and update it, you would have to speak to Theresa specifically for clarification of the rehoming policy, but she will not rehome with all-day workers.

Some dogs get separation anxiety from being left 5 minutes, so surely it would depend on the dog?

I'm not after a dog and I don't work, so it isn't an issue for me, but I have worked full time AND owned Jess (GSD) during this time and she is a well adjusted, balanced dog, so IMO it depends moreso on the dog.

Hi

Yeah I agree it depends on the dog and the age. Some dogs would be more suitable than others. If you was going to leave a dog at work all day I guess it would be better to leave 2 so they have company.

I'm the webmaster, I know a lot more about computers than I do dogs so I'm no authority. I used to always work full-time and always wanted a dog but after talking to people they convinced me it wasn't fair on the dog and I spent over a decade wanting one.

I do know the rescue's policy and that is not to rehome to all day workers, but different places have different policies on rehoming. All the pets of Animal Allsorts are microchipped to the rescue, the adoption papers state that cannot be changed. The pet cannot be sold or transferred to somebody else and has to be returned to the rescue if it can't be looked after anymore unless agreement has been made with the rescue. Theresa does follow-up checks to check on the wellbeing of the dogs adopted and everybody is homechecked. A lot of care is given to dogs, and a guarantee that they will never end up in the position they were rescued from.

It depends on the dog, but it also depends if somebody will give you a dog in that position, and whether it is fair to leave a dog on it's most of the day. Theresa has been rescuing dogs over 20 years and sets the policy on what is best for her dogs. I guess if you think about all the effort, money, time and resources that is put into saving these dogs and rehoming them, it seems a bit pointless to place them somewhere they will be left alone most of the day.

Unfortunately this capitalist commercialised world doesn't make it easy to own a dog as it forces most people to work full time. My dog wants to go hunting for food, he doesn't understand we get it from Asda and I wouldn't be able to explain to him why I needed to be out the house 60 hours a week doing an office job.
