Japan opens first elderly dog retirement home

A Japanese pet company is opening a nursing home for elderly dogs, providing round-the-clock veterinary care, a specialist gym and a swimming pool.
Improved living conditions and health services for animals mean that the majority are living far longer than in the past, while new laws that went into effect in Japan last year make it a legal obligation for pet owners to take care of their animals until they die.

What a shame that there is no such elderly human retirement care available elsewhere.

So, what... when your dog gets old and you no longer want to care for it you can just ship it off to this facility? Not sure I'm a fan of this. In my opinion, if you get a pet, you care for it until it dies. At your home, except when medical care is required.
But if your old pet is so old and so ill it can't be cared for at home anymore, I think putting it to sleep is much kinder than letting it die away from you in a 'care home' in a shopping mall!
Dogs don't care about being 'pampered' and having 'luxury facilities' like a swimming pool. They just want to be with their family.
This seems just an easy solution for people who'd rather get a new puppy but don't want to feel guilty for getting rid of their old pet.

Old people should be so lucky. Most even do get care the help they need let alone having their own swimming pool.

Or maybe you think that all elderly people's homes are as wonderful as that.

I'm not talking about elderly people, this article is about dogs and old people and their care is not mentioned anywhere.
It's not the same thing and can't be compared.

Might be a good idea for those who pass away and leave dogs behind or maybe for people who just can't look after their dog themselves anymore... so long as they visit often

No way would my beloved dog want to be left behind while I was left in the luxury of such a wonderful home.

Perhaps a bit of learning about care homes for humans in the UK might be learned about before such wonderful things as dog retirement homes are though to be so wonderful?
